Design Process:
The Area Participation Platform has been successfully applied in the project to improve the accessibility of Wageningen. The platform is a means of communication for the province of Gelderland to involve local residents and other stakeholders in road design, nature and landscape integration. By indicating the input of respondents on the map and presenting it in a clear, attractive and realistic way. Could the sketch design be continuously adjusted and improved to better match the wishes and needs of the environment. The Area Participation Platform therefore led to valuable input that could be included in the design process and ensured acceptance and support among both residents and stakeholders.
Successful means of communication for the environment:
The success of the platform is due to the fact that the communication tool was used at various points in the process, so that local residents and stakeholders remained continuously involved. The platform has an interactive map on which people could indicate exactly which locations and wishes they had. In addition, the input was presented in an understandable way, which helped to understand the design processes. In this way, the province of Gelderland and the municipality of Wageningen could work together with the surrounding area to find a successful solution for improving the accessibility of Wageningen. The Area Participation Platform can therefore serve as an example for other projects in which participation of the environment is important, as well as creating acceptance and support.
