Graduation intern Dirk van der Lep

The Imagineers are continuously exploring the technological front-tier. Sometimes this is known territory, but every now and then we also find ourselves in unknown territory. For these types of issues, we like to embrace smart people such as graduate trainees, companies and institutions who can discover this with us. This includes Dirk van der Lep, who will graduate with us.

Dirk van der Lep

Who is Dirk?

Hehai! My name is Dirk van der Lep and I am currently graduating from the Communication & Multimedia Design studies. During my studies (and even before my studies) I have always focused on development. Particularly within game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity. In addition to development, I also know a thing or two about game design and 3D.

I like to spend my free time playing the drums, listening to music and also enjoy playing a fun game with friends.

What will you be doing at The Imagineers?

As I already mentioned, my specialization is in developing cool products. I want to apply this specialization to setting up a product. Which has not yet come to light for The Imagineers in the current market.

Why?

During my experience with development, I have always been interested in new technologies. How are these created and what are the best uses of certain techniques? Finding out and of course applying this is something that really appeals to me. This means you can also find me in Unreal Engine quite often when there have been updates!

How did you end up with us?

Last year I completed my internship at The Imagineers. This pleased both parties well. After my internship, The Imagineers continued to build on my research and take it even further. So before the summer I received a call asking if I would also like to do my graduation internship with Remy at The Imagineers.

How do you like that?

Excellent! On the first day I was immediately welcomed with open arms and after my opinion we immediately clicked again. In addition to being fun, everyone at The Imagineers is always open to help with problems. This is very valuable to me as a student and it also allows me to grow further in both my specialty and my communication.

What are you like as a 3D artist?

As I mentioned earlier, I always try to apply the latest techniques of the software I use within my projects. This use of new techniques is often combined with a lot of research. This also allows me to improve my own workflow within the programs I use.

What do you want to learn?

I would really like to expand my existing knowledge about Unreal Engine in several areas. The biggest point I want to address is getting to know C++ better. This addresses how this language can be used within Unreal Engine. This allows me to work more efficiently, but also make more efficient parts for products.

What will your working life look like in two years?

Applying my specialty for a purpose that can bring a benefit to society is something that makes me enthusiastic. This allows me to develop myself while also improving other things. In addition, I have always found the gaming industry very interesting, this is also something I try to keep myself busy with in my spare time.

Collaboration The Imagineers
