Electricity for 50.000 households
In the pilot program 'Renewable energy on government land', Rijkswaterstaat is investigating how government land can be used for energy generation. The 'Drentse Zonneroute A37' project is part of this pilot programme. The government is testing the possibilities of solar energy along the A37: a stretch of 42 kilometers between Hoogeveen and the German border. A solar park can be placed along the route that generates electricity for 50.000 households.

Picture of possible situation
To give those involved an indication of the size of the solar park, we made a visualization based on an existing design for the solar route. We put our 3D camera in exactly the same position as the design and adjusted the photos so that the lines and indicated positions correspond exactly to reality. This gave stakeholders a picture of the possible situation from various places on the A37 and they were able to form a well-founded opinion.

Clear and honest information
We integrated the visualisations into the Area Participation Platform. This is a visual tool in which we made the complex project information accessible by means of appropriate, interactive visualizations and maps. By presenting clear and honest information, we brought initiators and ignorant citizens closer together.
