RES Noord Veluwe

The province of Gelderland and the municipalities of the Noord-Veluwe, Vallei en Veluwe water board and grid operator Liander are working together on the energy transition of Noord-Veluwe.

Their goal is to generate approximately 2030% of the electricity used in their own region by 60 via solar and wind energy, i.e. generating sustainable energy. With this they reduce the emission of greenhouse gases (CO2) by 49%. A concept plan has been drawn up for this in collaboration with 130 representatives of civil society organizations and other parties from North Veluwe.

To test this draft plan, RES Noord-Veluwe asked The Imagineers to create an interactive map-driven survey to take residents into the search areas for possible generation of sustainable energy. In the survey, residents can also give their opinion about the search areas and the variants.

The objective of RES Noord-Veluwe is to inform and involve the inhabitants in the first variants and concepts regarding the generation of sustainable energy from sun and wind in the region.

On the platform, residents have given a rating based on a five-point scale for each search area. In addition, the residents could also substantiate the figure by means of a textual explanation. Through this method of questioning, the RES Noord-Veluwe collected both quantitative and qualitative data. This data was later filtered based on postal code area to analyze any differences.

Results:
A total of 1438 residents from the region responded to the survey. The results have shown, for example, that there is a strong preference for developing solar and/or wind energy within a number of search areas. There was also a strong preference to develop projects in this way on industrial estates, in the villages/towns, along the highway, on defense sites and in the countryside. However, there was no support for developing solar projects in the nature and peat meadow areas. These results were analyzed by RES Noord-Veluwe itself.

"In the RES project energienorthveluwe.nl the visualization of the search areas for wind and solar energy worked well in our consultation round of residents. The given scores and arguments have provided us with a lot of valuable information. This allows us to make clear choices in the development of our energy strategy."
