The North Sea Canal Area project agency has asked The Imagineers to make a visualization of its future plans. The area will face major challenges in the coming decades in the field of infrastructure, energy transition and sustainability. In the North Sea Canal Area, governments and the business community have been working together for many years on major challenges, which are encompassed in a development perspective. Every year the project office organizes a conference where all stakeholders come together to reflect and look ahead. At the NZKG Annual Congress on November 10, 2023, the development perspective was explained to interested parties. The course will then be further elaborated in an implementation agenda and a regional investment agenda by the region and the government.

We have summarized this course in an animation that serves as a kick-off to the conference and will also take a central place within the project office's communications afterwards. We first created an image scenario with the supplied text script, after which each scene was constructed separately in 3D. With various partners such as the municipality of Amsterdam and Tata Steel, we have received new 3D models to visualize the future situation.

There is also an English version. View it here.

The view starts from the North Sea; this best suits the view from which the customer wants to describe it. This is followed by a fly-through through the area in which icons and surfaces highlight the challenges surrounding a healthier living environment and a new energy infrastructure.

The result is a four-minute video that embraces all the plans. The various components are highlighted by means of map layers.

NOVEX area

The North Sea Canal Area is one of 16 designated areas under the umbrella of NOVEX (National Environmental Vision Extra). These are areas that are being repurposed and/or radically redesigned as a result of national tasks. Examples include the Schiphol Region, the Port of Rotterdam and also the North Sea Canal area between IJmuiden and Amsterdam.

The aim of the above vision is to implement and, if necessary, tighten the national environmental vision, together with the Beautiful Netherlands programme.

“We are very satisfied with the collaboration and the end product of The Imagineers.

One hundred pages of Development Perspective summarized and depicted in 3D in a 4-minute video. The Imagineers have lived up to all expectations!”

Technique

We built the visual twin world in Unreal in combination with Cesium. This allows us to quickly set up a 3D world including photogrammertry, terrain and building data. The map layers supplied by various partners in Adobe Illustrator could also be easily read. Finally, some video post-processing has been added in Adoe After Effects.
