Stakeholder engagement platform

Stakeholder engagement

Early involvement of stakeholders

The views of stakeholders in planning and development are becoming increasingly important. But how do you reach your target stakeholder group, how do you provide information, and how do you
ensure that a small vocal group does not have the predominant response?

The Stakeholder engagement platform (SEP) allows you to involve local people and other interested parties to have access to development proposals and to exchange information in a straightforward and easy manner. This ensures that people can participate constructively in the development process. How does it work?

1. Provide knowledge and information

Local people and other stakeholders need to have enough knowledge and information in order to form a considered opinion. And if information and knowledge are freely available, it is less likely to be met by unfounded opposition.

Using engaging visual images and short pieces of text and narrative we can provide a clear image of the potential visual change resulting from the proposed
development. SEP will also provide answers to typical questions of stakeholders:

2. Reach a wide target audience

The online platform SEP reaches part of the target audience which is not usually engaged
using traditional consultation techniques. The diagram shows that the online
consultation facility potentially reaches a much wider contact than traditional consultation
using off-line consultation meetings. Also, SEP provides (anonymized) quantitative data about the audience.

3. Discuss at an early stage

By engaging stakeholders early in the process the risk of stakeholders misinterpreting the proposals is reduced. And more positive responses by a wider audience will lead to a quicker and more satisfactory process:

    What is SEP?

SEP is a smart method for involving citizens in a changing living environment. It is an image-driven and location-based web application specifically focused on communication and participation. SEP ensures effective interaction with those involved throughout the entire process from planning to implementation. SEP is suited for individual projects as well as related projects.

Contexts, experience, and dialogue; all in one go

SEP is based on three important components: Context, perception & experience, and dialogue. We believe that one of the main benefits of the SEP is the seamless integration of the three
components. By telling the story as much as possible using visual images, people do not need to read a lot in order to come to an opinion.

    Context

    Context

This provides the setting and background to the proposal . It addresses the
    where what and why?

    Experience

    Experience

Interested parties can easily compare the existing and proposed situation by reviewing photographic images. Also, they can consult numerous maps to obtain more detail and understanding of the situation.

    Dialogue

    Dialogue

SEP can contain a module facilitating participation. This module allows
stakeholders and local people to submit ideas, ask questions and express their concerns.

    SEP helps to:

    • Engage and involve people with the planning process
    • Simulate changes in the environment, to allow early experience of the change by local people
    • Address and engage new target groups
    • Ensure that dialogue is easily balanced and not hijacked by certain people or groups
    • Get quantitative data on the support level

The platform can be used for both smaller and larger projects. For example, infrastructure projects, area development, and renewable energy projects.

One of our recent projects is a consultation of residents about renewable energy. Please read about this project here
